Health Canada has ordered a massive recall of over half a million toys sold at Dollarama locations nationwide. The toys were found to have “levels of phthalates that exceed the allowable limit”. The toy in question, known as a “Skip Ball”, was extremely popular, selling 516 125 units nationwide at Dollarama.
Phthalates, a class of chemicals found in vinyl products, are controlled by law because they “may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children” when chewed or sucked… And we all know how our little ones sometimes love to put toys in their mouths!
Consumers affected by this recall bought the Skip Balls between January 2012 and July 27th, 2018. The Chinese-made toys should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase for a full refund (no receipt required).
This is very concerning, to say the least… For children who got this toy several years ago, the damage may already be done.
