If your kids are losing their baby teeth, it’s likely that some of their friends and classmates are, too… Enter the “Tooth Fairy” and all the expectations of money that involves! “But mom, so-and-so got $10 for THEIR tooth!” (sound familiar?)
But… How much money?
On the morning show, Vinny, Nikki and Sam reminisced about this… When they were kids, parents would typically give a coin or two per tooth, either $1 or $2 (or even 25¢ in Sam’s case!).
A recent survey found that the average these days is a whopping $4 per tooth!! And if that’s the AVERAGE, you know some kids are getting a whole lot more. In some cases, parents give up to $20 per tooth!
Add to that the whole “family dynamic”… Because apparently, in certain families, uncles, aunts and grandparents give money too!
Make them earn it!
Do you feel like the whole “giving money for a lost tooth” tradition goes too far? There is at least one strategy you can use to make it work to your advantage (and your child’s)! If your child is expecting money for losing teeth, why not make them work for it?
This dad found a GENIUS way to raise his child’s awareness of dental hygiene. In a letter from “Barry T. Tooth Fairy”, he explains to his son that payment for his tooth is being withheld due to “trace amount of Fanta and residual amounts of both cereal and chocolate which have not been removed by appropriate brushing technique.”
What an awesome way to teach your kids important life habits early on!
