Montreal is a hotbed for creative souls, and has produced some of the greatest names in music in the past decades. Every day, amazing original music can be heard in bars, clubs and concert halls. Whether it’s coming from a big name or a small, amateur artist, there’s always something for every taste in a market that’s often described by musicians as “highly saturated” yet “very supportive”.
Most Montrealers are familiar with our local talents who have made their mark, including Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire and Céline Dion… But there are TONS of other great musicians from this city!

Bran Van 3000
This Montreal hip hop collective got their start by producing collaborations with Franco singer-songwriter Jean Leloup.
Up & coming singer & pianist Brandon Mig recently released his single “Best I’ll Never Have”.
Multi-instrumentalist and DJ Champion (real name Maxime Morin) started out as a metal head teenager before gravitating towards techno. He made a name for himself as “Champion” with his 2005 début, “Chill’em All”.
Montreal electronic duo Chromeo was formed in 2002 by David "Dave 1" Macklovitch and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel. They’ve released four studio albums so far.
Originally from Mont-Laurier, Quebec, Bazini has made a name for himself in the music business with three successful studio albums so far!
After getting good press and radio coverage with her band The Garlics, May Wells went on as a solo artist, and her song “One Night” is a fan favourite here on The Beat!
Montreal-born singer Jonas Richard Tomalty has released over seven albums, either as a solo artist or with his band The Massive Attraction. He’s also been nominated at the Juno Awards.
Born in Italy, Misstress Barbara (real name Barbara Bonfiglio) moved to Montreal at age eight. A world-renowned DJ, she even has her own record label “Relentless”.
Hanorah caught everyone’s attention after doing quite well as a finalist in season 5 of “La Voix”. She has two albums so far, and we can’t wait to hear more!
Inaugurated in 1999, Montreal pop-punk band Simple Plan have reinvented themselves over the course of their career to stay relevant, collaborating with the likes of Sean Paul, and making waves with their newest album “Taking One for the Team”.
One of this year’s most-requested artists on The Beat, Karl Wolf has conquered hearts with his song “Secret”… Now, listen to his latest work, “Way Low”.
Jazz singing sensation Nikki Yanofski made her mark at an extremely young age – she was just 12 years old for her début appearance at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. That made her the youngest performer to ever headline the festival. Since then, she has also performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 winter Olympics.
Coeur de Pirate
Her real name is Béatrice Martin, and she has become widely known in the Quebec francophone music scene after releasing six albums and winning four Félix awards.
Singer, rapper and dancer Treh LaMonte has been working on his music since age 13, and is just starting to make a name for himself, most noticeably with the song “I’m Finessin”, which is already a fan favourite on The Beat!
Raised in a musical household in Montreal, Adam Shomer didn’t plan on a music career; he attended college on a basketball scholarship! However, he ended up auditioning for his school’s acapella group as a beatboxer. This led to a now-burgeoning career as a singer.
Cardin, an English and French singer-songwriter, started her career as a model at age 15 before a collaboration with Garou opened the door to a career in music. She has since won two JUNO awards for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.
Milk & Bone
Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin started off touring with David Giguère and collaborated on Misteur Valaire’s album “Bellevue” before going on as an electronic duo. They are francophone, but their music is in English.
Son of former Montreal Canadiens star goaltender Patrick Roy, Jonathan dabbled in hockey before opting for a music career. His song “Daniella Denmark” quickly got lots of love on The Beat after it was released in 2015!
