Tennis legend Serena Williams will be playing in this year’s Rogers Cup in Montreal. The news was confirmed by Rogers Cup Tournament Director Eugene Lapierre, who said the tournament has awarded Williams a wild card entry.
The 36-year-old hasn’t visited Montreal since 2014, and is sure to be a big draw for the Rogers Cup this year. After becoming a mother less than a year ago (September 1st, 2017) Williams quickly got back into tennis, and performed well in this year’s French Open and at Wimbledon. The 23-time Grand Slam winner is now ranked 28th worldwide.
After announcing our player list a few weeks ago, we were only missing Serena to complete our dream tournament. Serena has impressed everyone with the speed at which she was able to return to a high level of play.
Between tournament appearances, Williams is still finding time for her family, though! She recently posted this amazing video from her vacation in Erbusco, Italy. That was just five days after her most recent tennis post, after her Wimbledon appearance. Her message to working moms: “for all moms stay home and working you can do it you really can! I’m not any better or diff than any of you all. Your support has ment so much to me. (sic)”
