Just days after breaking YouTube’s all-time viewing record with over 5 billion views, Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” fell victim to an apparent hacking. Earlier today, it disappeared from the popular video platform along with other videos from popular VEVO accounts.
Fans trying to watch “Despacito” were instead presented a disturbing photo of five masked people with guns pointed at the camera. When pressing play, the screen would become gray, with the mention “This video is unavailable.
The hackers also changed the caption under the video, writing “Free Palestine”.
Other popular VEVO accounts affected by the hack included Drake, Taylor Swift, Shakira, Selena Gomez and others. A VEVO spokesperson told The Independent “VEVO can confirm that a number of videos in its catalogue were subject to a security breach today, which has now been contained. We are working to reinstate all videos affected and our catalogue to be restored to full working order.”
As of this writing, “Despacito” and other hacked videos have returned to their original places, with the same amount of views.
