This is something you don’t see every day! Kīlauea EcoGuides is a Hawaiian touring agency that specializes in tours of the lava flows on Kīlauea, the world’s most active volcano. Last year, one of their tour guides accidentally left a GoPro in a crevasse for a little too long, with lava flowing towards it. While he wasn’t paying attention, the camera was completely engulfed by lava and caught fire.
Amazingly, the camera survived and it even still works! (Although not as well as before)
The data on the SD card was still intact, and was edited into this fascinating video shared to YouTube by PetaPixel:
Although it still works, the GoPro does look a little worse for wear…
