The STM is in the process of replacing its fleet of MR-63 cars with new Azur trains, and one organization is turning the old wagons into something brand new along the Lachine Canal! This weekend, along with the first rays of sunshine, Montrealers got their first glimpse of the new “Station F-MR” being built in Griffintown.
Several Montrealers caught pictures of the signature blue & white STM cars being installed by workers on Sunday, and posted them on Instagram.
The MR-63 cars, the first to ever run in Montreal’s underground tunnels, were first loaded onto truck beds and brought to Griffintown to begin their new life.
At first, they’ll be installed on the ground near the water, for a pilot project dubbed “Station F-MR”. Complete with four wagons, bars and food trucks, a stage and art exhibitions, this temporary installation will be complete by mid-May, an MR-63 representative told us.
Once complete, the pilot project, “Station F-MR”, will look like this:

Then, the organization moves on to even bigger things. MR-63 plans on building a permanent installation along the Canal after this pilot project. Here’s a glimpse of what that could look like:
