Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Montreal area. An extended period of freezing rain is to hit us Friday before turning to heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Sounds like we can expect a brown Christmas next Tuesday…
The expected bad weather is due to a low pressure system coming from the Gulf of Mexico, the federal agency wrote on its website. The rain, combined with the cold weather we’re already experiencing in the area, will make for slippery, treacherous road conditions. Pedestrians and cyclists, too, will need to exercise caution and limit their movements to the absolute bare necessities.
Freezing rain will begin falling Thursday night, extending well into Friday – expect your Friday morning commute to be the period most affected by this freezing rain.
As temperatures warm, the freezing rain will turn to rain; Environment Canada expects the precipitations to be quite heavy.
