We have sad news to share for NDG residents… If you’re a fan of the St. Viateur Bagel location on Monkland, you might want to make the most of it while it’s still there. The bakery has officially announced that it’s closing after 18 years in operation.
Co-owner Nick Morena told the Montreal Gazette that he couldn’t renegotiate his lease with his shop’s landlord, Développement Métro Montreal Corporation. “It’s sad that it has to end this way. […]You know, St. Viateur bagels, we open businesses, we don’t close them. It’s a strange feeling for us,” he said.
Morena also said the bakery will likely reopen in NDG at some point in the future. “We don’t want to rush things, so I can’t give you a timeline […]we plan it out and we do it right.”
For the time being, though, NDG residents will have to get used to the idea of not having such easy access to St. Viateur’s world-famous hand-rolled bagels… The bakery officially closes in March.
St. Viateur will remain open at its DDO, Laval and Mont-Royal locations, and of course at its main Saint-Viateur Street location.
