The stars of Black Panther stunned Hollywood on Sunday night (27Jan19) by picking up the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Even the movie's star, Chadwick Boseman, was surprised, telling the audience at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles that he didn't think he would have to speak at the ceremony after the blockbuster was shut out of all the other movie awards, apart from Stunt Ensemble, which it claimed on the red carpet before the prizegiving began.
The Marvel movie beat out Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, Crazy Rich Asians, and BlacKkKlansman for the top prize.
Meanwhile, The Wife's Glenn Close picked up the Actor for Outstanding Female Actor in a Lead Role, Rami Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody earned him the Best Male Actor gong, and the best supporting prizes went to Emily Blunt for A Quiet Place and Green Book's Mahershala Ali.
TV comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was an early triple winner, collecting the ceremony's first three prizes for Outstanding Male Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Shalhoub), Female Actor (Rachel Brosnahan), and Ensemble.
There were also big TV wins for the cast of This Is Us, Jason Bateman, Darren Criss, Patricia Arquette and Sandra Oh.
