Actress Eliza Dushku is expecting her first child.

The former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star confirmed the happy news to Us Weekly at a screening of her new documentary, Mapplethorpe, at Cinepolis Chelsea in New York City on Thursday (14Feb19).

Eliza was accompanied by her husband of six months, Peter Palandjian - the CEO of the Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation, and told the publication, "We’re just very excited. We just got married in August. It’s a special year for us."

Dushku debuted her tiny baby bump on the red carpet at the event.

The actress is also wrapping up her time at Suffolk University, where she's studying holistic healing, addiction and trauma.

"I’ve been really excited about what I’m doing with my life these days," the 38-year-old mum-to-be said. "I’ve been living in Boston. I'm about to be a senior in college... and I’m newly married and I'm just so excited about this next chapter in my life.

"You know, I've been acting since I was nine years old and I'm sort of finding these new things that I'm really excited about. It's been a big year but a great year."

The baby will be the first child for Dushku but her 54-year-old husband has four children from a previous relationship.

Eliza, who previously dated retired basketball player Rick Fox, producer Brent Bolthouse and funnyman Seth MacFarlane, moved home to Boston, Massachusetts in 2016 to study at Suffolk University.

She had a rough start to 2018 before getting married, after revealing she was molested as a child on the set of True Lies in a candid Facebook post. She also reportedly landed a huge windfall from network bosses at CBS after making sexual harassment allegations against her Bull co-star Michael Weatherly.

The claims came to light as part of an investigation examining the behavior of CBS' former chief executive Leslie Moonves following sexual abuse allegations made against him.

She reportedly confronted Weatherly about his behavior, and shortly afterwards she was told her character has been written out of the show, despite the fact she was reportedly offered a series regular slot.

Following the decision, Eliza was said to have signed a confidential agreement with CBS for $9.5 million - the estimated amount she would have made as a cast member for four seasons on the series.

Weatherly also apologised for his behavior, telling the New York Times, "During the course of taping our show, I made some jokes mocking some lines in the script. When Eliza told me that she wasn’t comfortable with my language and attempt at humour, I was mortified to have offended her and immediately apologized. After reflecting on this further, I better understand that what I said was both not funny and not appropriate and I am sorry and regret the pain this caused Eliza."
