Denzel Washington honored his hairstylist at the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday night, crediting him for creating his signature look.

The star took the stage at the Los Angeles ceremony to pay tribute to Larry M. Cherry, who first began working with the actor on the set of the 1992 biopic Malcolm X. They later teamed up on a number of projects, including Courage Under Fire, The Siege, Training Day, John Q, Man On Fire, and Equalizer 2.

The 64 year old referred to Cherry as a ''consummate professional'' who ''never takes credit'' as he presented him with the Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling prize.

"He's been my confidant, my psychologist, my psychiatrist... he's done everything," Washington told the crowd. "He stays out of the way but he always has a solution. He's usually right."

Cherry's distinguishing career began when he worked as a stylist on Spike Lee's 1986 production She's Gotta Have It.

The Hollywood Beauty Awards recognizes achievements in beauty, hair, makeup, photography and styling in film, TV and music, as well as those who craft looks for red carpet appearances and editorial photo shoots. This year's ceremony was attended by Kim Kardashian, Nina Dobrev, Nicole Scherzinger, and Steven Tyler.

Among those presented with awards during the star-studded bash were Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who was given Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design and Styling; Marie Osmond, who was presented with the Timeless Beauty Award, and actor Edward James Olmos, who walked away with the Gentleman's Award prize.
