With the beginning of March, FINALLY the season of spring is just around the corner, after a brutally cold and icy winter! We still have a ways to go with the cold season – not to mention at least one more late-season snowstorm – but at least the sun lingers longer and we have light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s also March break from this evening (March 1) until March 10, for thousands of school children! That means you’ll have to find fun things to do as a family to keep your homework-free rug rats from wreaking havoc in the household!
Without further ado, here is some of the fun, family-friendly stuff going on in Montreal this weekend.
Nuit blanche à Montréal
On the night of Saturday to Sunday (March 2-3), it’s Montreal’s traditional yearly Nuit blanche! There are all sort of activities going late into the night, including ice skating karaoke, a glow-in-the-dark party at the Grande Bibliothèque and many others.
In addition, the STM will be open ALL NIGHT LONG for the occasion! Regular fares apply.
Montreal Science Centre
The Montreal Science Centre has lots of active exhibitions, and is showing a VERY cool IMAX 3D picture about Volcanoes! There’s enough here for an entire day of fun with the whole family!
Montréal en Lumière
The 20th edition of the Montréal en Lumière festival wraps up on Monday, March 4. For the occasion, Montreal’s Place des festivals is lit up with a million multi-coloured lights. Attractions include a brightly-lit ice slide, a multi-coloured Ferris wheel, numerous food & drink stands and art expositions.
The festival is FREE to enter; activities vary in cost. Dress warmly!
The cider lover’s equivalent to Montreal’s Mondial de la bière festival! Cider fans can taste the variety of different ciders offered by Quebec orchards and producers, who are some of the world’s best!

Montreal International Children’s Film Festival
For its 22nd edition, the festival is showing hundreds of films at three locations, many of them in English. Screenings will be held from March 2 to 10 at Cinéma du Parc, Cinéma Beaubien, Cinéma du Musée and at the Montreal Fine Arts Museum.
Cost: $9.50 per film
