A supermarket on Nun’s Island in Montreal has completely stopped selling cigarettes, TVA reports. The decision comes after a historic court decision forced tobacco giants to pay out more than $15 million to smokers.
Bruno Ménard, co-owner and vice-president of the Nun’s Island IGA, told TVA that cigarettes had become a burden on his business. He described the product as heavy and bulky, and said they now represented less than 1% of sales at his store – not worth the hassle!
The Nun’s Island IGA stopped selling cigarettes on March 1, 2019.
