Beauty and the Beast is a fairty-tale classic made extremely popular in our times by the Disney adaptations. Both the 1991 animated film and the 2017 live-aciton remake were highly successful and catapulted the French tale into the worldwide spotlight...

But when it comes to Beauty and the Beat, how much of a superfan are you? When question #6 below was used on "Are you Smarter than Sam" this morning, would you have gotten it right??

Here are 10 FACTS that you may not have known about Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

  1. Her character was inspired by Katharine Hepburn in Little Women.
  2. Mrs. Potts was originally named Mrs. Chamomile.
  3. Belle is the only resident of her village who wears blue.
  4. The final dance scene from the 1991 animated movie reused animation from Sleeping Beauty.
  5. The prince’s name is never mentioned in the movie.
  6. Chip, the teacup that comes to life, and became a fan favourite, was almost a one-line character.
  7. It was the first animated film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
  8. Belle is the second Disney princess that isn’t royal by birth.
  9. Belle is the first brunette Disney Princess
  10. In the 1991 animated film, the ballroom dance sequence was partly computer animated and party traditionally animated.
