Online market Kijiji, owned by eBay, has announced it will no longer allow users to buy & sell event tickets using its services, according to a Canadian press report. The company cited problems with electronic ticket transfers as the main reason for the new rule.

Over the years, as ticket systems have gradually move towards electronic tickets, there have been problems with ticket transfers as well as an increase in fraud.

However, eBay will continue to take part in the ticket resale business via another one of its online properties, StubHub, which specializes in ticket resales.

The new rules are effective immediately.  However, ads already active on Kijiji will not be removed until they expire, in a maximum of 60 days. Kijiji will rely on automatic systems as well as manual monitoring to enforce the ban on ticket sales.

Recently, basketball tickets for Raptors games had reached excessive prices, sometimes in the tens of thousands of dollars per seat.
