Missy Elliott is “Humbly Grateful” to be receiving the MTV video vanguard award this year. Elliott, 48, will become the first female rapper to take home the prestigious award next August 26, when the VMAs will be presented.

Last year’s VMA went to another female artist, Jennifer Lopez, who was 49 at the time.

MTV announced the news Monday in a series of Tweets and on their website. Missy Elliott reacted with a grateful message on social media minutes later.
