At what age do you think you could call yourself an “independent adult”?.
The typical age of attaining legal adulthood is 18. According to a study, Six in 10 adults don’t yet consider themselves ‘grown up’. A lot of people are starting life later to hold on to their youth. The younger generation does not truly become adults until the age of 29 which is a lot older than it used to be. Although 59% still don't feel like adults at 29.
What helped people feel like an adult:
- Living alone.
- Getting married.
- Opening their own bank account.
- Doing their own taxes.
- Paying their own phone bill.
Why are people becoming adults later?
- It takes longer for people to become adults due to the economy.
- It takes longer to get a post-secondary education.
- People also choose to stay longer in school.
- People choose to take a year off.
- a "lack of effort" for the struggle, the younger generation is giving up a little quicker than the other generations.
They concluded that these 5 steps really make someone an “independent adult”:
- Make your own appointments.
- Doing your own laundry.
- Not borrowing money from your parents.
- Paying your own bills.
- Efficiently budgeting.
