Montreal’s biggest school board has declared September 27 a pedagogical day this year, ahead of the massive historic climate change march planned for that day.
As we reported previously, climate change activist Greta Thunberg will take part in the climate crisis march planned for September 27 in Montreal.
Students and citizens will take to the streets on September 27 to demand governmental action be taken against climate change. The march will start at noon from the statue of George-Étienne Cartier in Mont-Royal Park, in front of Parc Avenue. View the official Facebook event here for details.
The CSDM represents over 114,000 students in grade schools and high schools across the island. The school board is encouraging its students to participate in the climate march. The CSDM wants to “support the cause of the climate emergency,” said chairperson Catherine Harel Bourdon, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Greta Thunberg gained international attention by leading student protests in her native country of Sweden. She and her schoolmates skipped class each Friday to demand governments take action against climate change. This march isn’t just about students, though; many working adults have participated in previous marches, including the one held in Montreal last March 15.
Teachers’ unions across the province have also voted to strike on September 11 in support of this cause.
The Beat 92.5 will also be taking part in this historic march.
