Hey 80’s kids, get ready to return to Rydell High! The high school that served as John Travolta and Olivia Newton John’s stomping grounds in the 1978 music ‘Grease’ is coming to the small screen soon.
The new series, which is now in the works, will be produced by Paramount Television and available on upcoming streaming service HBO Max, THR reports.
Details are slim about the new series… But word is that it will feature a mix of songs and characters from the original movie along with new, original content. In keeping with the original, it will be musically-themed.
There is no word yet on how many episodes the new series will feature, or how long they will be. We don’t know when it’s premiering either, but our best guess is that it’ll launch at the same time as streaming service HBO Max, which is set to launch sometime in 2020.
Another thing fans are REALLY hoping for… Is that John Travolta and Olivia Newton John will make some kind of appearance! There is no official word on that yet either…
At the time of its release in 1978, ‘Grease’ became the highest-grossing musical ever in the United States, even surpassing all-time classic ‘The Sound of Music’. According to Wikipedia, ‘Grease’ has grossed a whopping $396 million worldwide since its original release.
Stay tuned for more details about this exciting upcoming series!
