Jennifer Lopez didn't hesitate when Donatella Versace asked her to walk the runway during Versace's spring/summer 2020 show.
At the end of the presentation, the superstar modelled a reimagined version of the iconic green tropical print gown with plunging neckline that she first wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000, attracting huge media attention from around the world.
While it may have been 19 years since Jennifer first sported the dress, in a chat with Anna Wintour during the 2019 Forces of Fashion conference, Donatella explained that she asked her friend if she would participate at the 2019 Met Gala in May and she immediately agreed.
"At the last Met Ball, we were sitting together at the table and I just looked at her and thought, 'My gosh, she looks so gorgeous, so sweet, she hasn't changed a bit from the first time.' And I asked her, 'Would you do it again, Jennifer?' She said, 'Why not? Let me check my schedule,'" she recalled. "And that happened in like two seconds, you know... and she said yes right away. This is what I like about her, she's very instinctive. She doesn't have to ask too managers what to do, she decided."
Donatella went on to explain that she was never worried about Jennifer "outshining" the Versace house, as she couldn't think of a better ambassador.
"She took the Versace name all over the world in one second," the 64-year-old noted.
Elsewhere in the chat, U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna asked the Italian designer what she thinks about America, having spent so much time there.
"I really feel half American. I even feel more American than Italian sometimes, by mentality, the way I do things. The way I make decisions very quickly, like you do here, it's very American way of thinking," she smiled.
