We are all guilty of this...Do you binge-watch television obsessively? A new survey has found that this unhealthy habit could be a daily reality for as many as 88% of adults.

With streaming services so popular we all get the urge to binge-watch our favorite shows. Here are the pros and cons of binge-watching:

PROS:

  • You get the watch your favorite series in less time.
  • You get to see the small things in shows that you may have not noticed or realized when watching it once a week.
  • You can avoid spoilers. When browsing the internet you might stumble upon an article or meme about the show you are watching causing a SPOILER that would totally ruin the series.
  • Binge-watching is just fun.

CONS:

  • Binge-watching dulls your emotions. You are so consumed in the characters and lives of what you are watching that it tends to dull your true emotions when stopping to watch it.
  • Loss of sleep, a survey, conducted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), found that sleep was the second most important priority in people’s lives, following family… Yet 88% of the 2,003 people surveyed admitted to forgoing sleep to watch multiple episodes of a television series. The AASM provides a bedtime calculator to help you adopt healthy sleep habits.
  • Makes you less social. When you get too consumed by a show once it is done, it is sometimes hard to get back to reality and your social life.
  • Can be bad for your health because you are sitting or lying down for a long period of time.

Yet although Binge-watching can be unhealthy if it is done in moderation like anything else, it is SO FUN!
