This weekend will mark the end of November, and the start of the mandatory winter tire period in Quebec. If you don’t have your winter tires on by December 1st – the date was moved forward by 15 days this year – you’ll face fines of up to $311 including the fees.
Another reminder: driving around with snow covering your car is illegal and punishable by a fine of $60 to $100, plus fees. For your own safety and the safety of others, please take the time to clear the snow off your car, including the roof. If you’re too short to clear the roof of snow, safety should still come first – climb up onto a seat for added reach, or ask someone else for help.
Road Closures
Meanwhile, there are road closures this weekend you should take into account if you plan on driving in the Montreal area.
Turcot area: the westbound Ville-Marie Expressway (136-W) and the westbound 20 will be completely closed between Exit 5 (Robert-Bourassa/Champlain/Victoria) and Saint-Pierre. The access ramp from 136-W to 15-N will also be closed. The 15-N towards 20-W will be closed, as will the 15-S to 20-W. The Girouard entrance to 15-S will be closed, and the 15-S coming from Décarie will be reduced to one lane. All above closures are effective from 11:59 pm Friday to 5 am Monday. Saint-Pierre area: in addition to the closures mentioned above, the access ramp from 20-W to 138-W (Mercier) will be closed. The entrance to 20-W from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue will be closed. All above closures are from 11:59 pm Friday to 5 am Monday.
The access ramp from westbound Notre-Dame Street to southbound Angrignon and the northbound Angrignon will be reduced to one lane from 10p pm Friday to 5 am Monday. Click here for a detailed map of the area.
