After a devastating fire, the West Island Assistance Fund is scrambling to rebuild just days before Christmas. The fire destroyed the charity’s Pierrefonds-Roxboro office and thrift shop, as well as large quantities of furniture, clothing, Christmas baskets and toys destined for distribution this Holiday season.
The only silver lining is that the organization’s food bank, located a block away, was spared. The West Island Assistance Fund provides food support and other social services to about 650 families.
They are now asking the community to donate whatever they can of the following items.
- Books (English and French)
- Educational games
- Puzzles
- Crayons
- Crafts
- Legos (Playmobile, Duplo, etc.)
Important: please do not donate the following items. The West Island Assistance Fund does not have the capacity to accept, store or distribute them.
- Electronics or toys with batteries
- Food
- Clothes
- Furniture
People wishing to donate to the West Island Assistance Fund may do so in person at the locations below. The Beat 92.5 is collecting items until this Friday to benefit the West Island Assistance Fund.
