Love – is it a chemical reaction in the brain? Is it a feeling? Is it something spontaneous, or the result of hard work to create bonds? Maybe it’s a mix of all of those things.
No matter how you think of love, we can all agree on one thing – it feels great! That’s because our brains are wired with reward mechanisms that produce feel-good chemicals whenever we start to fall for someone else.
But beyond the good feelings, love can be a bit of a mystery. One of the questions that surfaces again and again is about how long it takes to fall in love… Why that’s so tough to answer is because it varies, and also because it can be hard to define the exact moment someone falls in love.
Research shows it can take very little time to fall in love – as little as an hour, according to one study! However, most people don’t come anywhere close to professing their love that quickly. This survey found that men take an average of 88 days to say “I love you” while women take a little longer – 134 days. And to complicate things further, most people think of saying the words long before actually saying them!
