Nikki and Mark chat with, Dr. Debbie Schwarcz Emergency room Doctor at Lachine Hospital and family Doctor at Centre Médical Santé Mont Royal. Dr. Schwarcz explains the importance of social distancing and answers some important questions.
How do you best protect yourself when going to get groceries?
Dr. Schwarcz: I would encourage one family member to get groceries, it is not a family outing, you get what you need and leave, most important is to wash your hands, wipe down the cart where you will be holding it.
Do you wipe down everything you buy at the grocery store?
Dr. Schwarcz: I do believe that washing fruits and vegetables is important to wash. Wash your hands after touching anything you bring home.
What is very important to state about the virus is that it is a respiratory virus, so you can actually ingest the virus and nothing will happen to you it really needs to be exposed to the mucus membrane, so that would be your eyes, your nose and your mouth.
Take out food is safe because in order to get sick someone would have to cough or sneeze directly on to your food, then you would have to touch your food and then touch your face to get it.
After grocery shopping or leaving the house should i change my clothes?
Dr. Schwarcz: It's a good idea.
What are the Symptoms?
