As he does every day, the Premier of Quebec François Legault, reports on the most recent assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. There are 435 deaths 75 more than yesterday, there are 14,248 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are 2,645 people waiting for COVID-19 test results and 936 people are in the hospital, including 230 in intensive care. The number of people in Quebec who have recovered from COVID-19 as of Monday is 1,982, up 237 from Sunday.
Our top priority remains the situation in CHSLDs
The approximately 1,250 employees of the CHSLD network are absent for various reasons, said Mr. Legault, particularly because they are sick or because they are afraid of being infected with the virus.
The Premier confirmed that the province's 2,600 homes for the aged have been inspected. Of the 2,600, 41 residences are more critical, where we have to follow the situation a little closer. Legault said he would release, and keep updated, a full list of the CHSLDs considered "hot spots" for COVID-19.
Legault stated that “We already had a staff problem before the crisis. We had increased the budgets for the CHSLDs, but unfortunately, we were unable to fill the positions.” Now that the shortage of workers has worsened due to the pandemic Legault, repeated a call for help from Quebecers from recently retired health care workers and others, including teachers with experience in health care, to help.
ONLY in CHSLDs: Horacio Arruda, the province's director of public health said as of this Thursday the government will start to allow caregivers into CHLSDs, but there will be strict rules on visits. One being all caregivers have to undergo tests for COVID-19. Legault did add, these new measures does not mean you can go visit their loved ones.
PLUS, as of tomorrow, auto mechanics will be allowed to start working again, so to help flatten the curve on tire changes, the Transport Ministry has postponed the annual deadline for removing studded tires from May 1st to June 5th. READ MORE
