The Premier of Quebec François Legault, reports on the most recent assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. As of today there have been 102 more deaths bringing the total to 1041 in Quebec. There are 20,126 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 1,224 people are in the hospital, including 201 who are in intensive care.
Legault mentions the situation in residences continues to be at the heart of the coronavirus crisis in the province out of 2,600 residences, there are still 80 where there are high numbers of COVID-19 cases.
After yesterday Legault said 1000 of the 2000 positions in residences have been filled so far by doctors, nurses, etc. Legault, mentioned he should have increased the wages of health-care workers more quickly, who are on the front line of the fight against the pandemic and in retirement homes. Discussions on this, have started between unions and government officials. The President of the Treasury Board, Christian Dubé, hopes for an agreement as soon as possible.
Outside of retirement homes, the situation is stable in Quebec, so we're starting to think about reopening, says the Legault “Which regions could open first? There is nothing decided yet, I do not have the ok of Dr. Arruda yet,” we remain cautious. As for schools, it would not be a good idea to wait until September to return a million children to school at the same time.
"We are looking at a gradual reopening,” at daycare centres, 0schools and businesses over the next few weeks and months. The important message is the word “GRADUALLY” Legault, repeated we want to avoid a second wave.
