Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this morning that the federal government will be investing 62.5 million dollars to support fish and seafood processors across the country.
Trudeau said that this funding will ensure that workers in this sector will be able to safely continue their crucial and essential work; processors will be able to purchase personal protective equipment for employees, better adapt to health protocols, and continue to support social distancing measures. Trudeau added that because Canada’s fish sector is greatly interconnected, this investment will also have a positive impact on fish harvesters across the country.
Also during his press conference, Prime Minister Trudeau addressed the Emergency Wage Subsidy Act and that effective Monday, employers of all sizes can apply to receive the benefit. In the meantime, employers can visit the Canada Revenue Agency website to calculate what the subsidy will cover.
