Businesses can begin applying for emergency COVID-19 wage subsidy program

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced as of today businesses are allowed to apply for the federal government’s $73 billion wage subsidy program.

Trudeau just announced that the Emergency Wage Subsidy application process is open; businesses who apply with direct deposit could see their first payment by May 7th. 10 thousand businesses have already applied since it opened at 6am this morning. 

He also mention the government will spend the week looking how to get more money to essential workers and they’ll work  very closely with the provinces to outline a detailed cautious plan for reopening the Canadian economy.

Closer to home, Montreal police handed out about 400 tickets last week for COVID-19 related offences. All together, the SPVM has handed out just over 18 hundred tickets to people disrespecting physical distancing guidelines, for the SQ that number is closer to 1500.

Quebec has confirmed just over 24 thousand cases of COVID-19, just over 15 hundred people have died in the province and almost 54 hundred people have recovered
