At his press conference this morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated the federal government’s promise to provide more pandemic aid during these unprecedented times.
Currently, the federal government is working on concluding an agreement with all provinces and territories to increase the wages of essential workers in Canada; the people who Trudeau said have been on the front lines in this fight against COVID-19 and have been doing excellent work.
In addition to this agreement, more support measures were announced this week to aid the food sector, including more funding for food processors to help increase employee safety and adapt to market changes.
Notably, Trudeau also announced on Friday that the emergency wage-subsidy program will also be extended past June.
Again this morning, Trudeau reiterated the importance of ensuring the health and safety of all Canadians during these unprecendented times, and of course as the “de-confinement” process slowly begins across the country. Trudeau noted that he was particularly worried about the greater Montreal region, which is a hotspot for the virus, and that he is working with Premier François Legault to guarantee that the right measures are being taken to ensure the safety of all Quebecers.
