Yesterday, Quebec's Government recommended the use of masks when out of the home.

Here are some guidelines from the CDC on how to care for these masks. Wearing a mask has been shown to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. How often should you wash that mask? Should you be cleaning your mask after each use? How often you clean your mask depends on how often you wear it and when.

If you’re just taking the occasional trip to the pharmacy and supermarket, a weekly wash should be appropriate, as long as the mask isn’t visibly soiled. If it is soiled, or if you’ve been around someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, the face covering should be washed immediately after use. And if you’re coughing and sneezing into the mask, then yes, scrub it daily. No sense in wearing snot.

FACE MASK DOS

  • Do wear out in public
  • Do use tightly woven materials
  • Do ensure it fits snugly
  • Do wash it regularly

FACE MASK DON’TS

  • Don’t adjust it or touch it often
  • Don’t share your mask
  • Don’t put one on a child under the age of 2
  • Don’t substitute a mask for other precautions
