As he does every day, the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, reports on the most recent assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. He is once again accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Danielle McCann, and the National Director of Public Health, Horacio Arruda.
As of today there are 3,220 deaths in Quebec that is 89 more than yesterday. There are 39,931 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that is 706 more cases than yesterday. 1,876 people are in the hospital, including 194 whom are in intensive care.
Yesterday, the three members of the "government trio" arrived masked at the authorities' daily press conference. François Legault wanted to set an example, he who strongly recommends that Quebecers wear a mask when they leave their home.
Legault addressed right away the issue in question on why he does not make the masks obligatory in public places and public transportation in Montreal. He said, it would take tens of millions, so he will not force anyone to put on a face cover as long as Quebec does not have enough of it. The Legault government did say they are in talks with Quebec companies to have access to these number of masks in a few weeks. This step is necessary, he said, if Quebec wants to make them mandatory in the metro or buses, for example. In Montreal, Legault said, more than 500,000 people pass through the metro every day.
The gradual reopening of certain sporting activities where there is no contact, such as golf and tennis, will be authorized by the Government of Quebec, François Legault said in his daily press briefing . For the first time in two months, Premier Legault will leave Quebec to go to Montreal tomorrow, where he will stay a few days, in particular to take stock with the management teams of the CISSS and CIUSSS of the metropolitan region.
