As he does every day, the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, reports on the most recent assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Montreal. He is accompanied by the national director of public health, Horacio Arruda, and his regional counterpart for Montreal, Dr. Mylène Drouin.

As of today there are 3,401 deaths in Quebec that is 52 more than yesterday. There are 41,420 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that is 796 more cases than yesterday. 1,822 people are in the hospital, including 191 whom are in intensive care.

Following the request of mayor Valérie Plante, the Government of Quebec will provide one million masks to the City of Montreal. Earlier this week, Premier François Legault had already indicated that he was ready to finance the purchase of masks to help Montrealers when taking public transportations. The Legault government will also grant 6 million dollars to all transportation companies in the Montreal Metropolitan Community.

Yesterday, Mr. Legault announced that back to school has been postponed to the fall in the metropolitan area. However, he indicated that the daycares, which were due to reopen on May 25, have been extended until June 1. As for businesses, no decision has yet been made.
