Quebec has given the go ahead for day camps to go back to their usual counselor-child ratios

The Quebec government is going back on its decision announced two weeks ago to reduce the number of children per counsellor in day camps, now allowing a return to the usual ratios once camps reopen on June 22.  .. The “easing” of ratios is a relief for organizers who feared a shortage of counsellors.

In a news release issued Wednesday evening, public health explained it has changed course “given the evolution of knowledge about the transmission of the virus and the situation of the pandemic.”

Municipalities and organizations that organize day camps will still have to plan activities that respect physical distancing and will need to ensure that additional hygiene measures are applied, the government said.

The Quebec government announced financial assistance of up to $11 million on Tuesday to help day camps comply with public health requirements.
