According to various medical experts cleaning our home is proven to be an effective stress-reliever.
According to the most recent Cleaning Rush Study by Mr. Clean, “100 percent of participants agreed that cleaning provides peace of mind and a sense of control over one’s environment.” Meanwhile, student and faculty researchers at Florida State University have found the simple act of washing dishes greatly decreases stress.
It doesn’t take a large study to see the benefits. For starters, cleaning often leads to the removal of clutter and as we all know, walking into a messy, cluttered home can be stressful. Exercise, of course, also helps with stress, and with the act of cleaning comes the benefit of a little extra exercise. Any attempt to clean your surrounding environment decreases the worry of falling sick. Simply put, cleaning provides us with a sense of control over our environment.
For some people, taking a few minutes to pass the broom across the kitchen floor can feel akin to the soothing effects of meditation but not everyone has the same affinity for cleaning—a fact you may know all too well if you’ve ever had a bad roommate.
However, choosing the right music to help direct your mood during a cleaning session can surely help, and that’s where we here at The Beat hope we can help!
