Planning a road trip – here are pandemic precautions to make sure to take
Many Montrealers are due for a break from isolation this summer. So why not plan a safe road trip? In order to follow all health guidelines a road trip will require careful planning and considerations.
Practicing social distancing and good hand hygiene is mandatory.
PLAN AHEAD
The US border still remains closed to non-essential travel. Make sure that you are allowed to travel to your destination before planning anything. Some provinces have lifted their restrictions of travel.
Upon leaving on your road trip it would be good to consider self-isolating at least 2 weeks before traveling so you know that you cannot transmit the virus.
KNOW YOUR SURROUNDING
Make sure you have an idea of the amount of people you will be interacting with when you decide your destination and whom you are traveling with. It is recommended to try not to be surrounded by to many people to avoid contracting or spreading the virus
EXTRA SUPPLIES
Depending your destination try to avoid stopping at multiple grocery stores or gas stations so bring an extra amount of food and water while traveling on the road.
PLUS, make sure to carry a road map in case your phone GPS reception isn’t the greatest. This will avoid you having to stop for directions.
PUMPING GAS
Make sure to bring a sufficient amount of gloves. When pumping gas do not forget to put on a glove or wipe the key pad with disinfect wipes before using. Once you have finished pumping gas do not forget to disinfect your hands with hand sanitizer
CLEANING PRODUCTS
If you need to stop to use the washroom remember to carry some cleaning products with you. In case you need to open lights hold door handles etc. Wear your gloves and mask and remember to wash your hand with soap and water afterwards.
EATING OR SNACKING
Make sure if you want to eat a snack or if you want to stop for food to either pick it up and eat in your car. Going into a restaurant isn’t recommended when traveling. Make sure to clean your hands before and after eating
CLEANING PROTOCOLS
If you are renting a car, make sure you ask the company all their cleaning protocols they put into place to make sure you are safe before renting a car.
SELF ISOLATION
When you come back home it is mandatory to isolate for 14 days.
