The Lifesaving Society is encouraging people to swim in supervised areas after several drownings this weekend

The Quebec Lifesaving Society reiterated Sunday the safety instructions to avoid drownings, after the death of several people, this weekend.

On Saturday, a 3-year-old girl drowned in a residential swimming pool in Noyan, and a 71-year-old fisherman perished in the Grande Rivière Noire, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region. On Sunday, three additional accidents occurred in Quebec.

Children in a residential swimming pool are unfortunately one of the most vulnerable. The Lifesaving Society recommends that the adults in charge of supervising the children around a swimming pool, should determine what their time slots are in detail to ensure the safety of the children swimming.

The Lifesaving Society reiteratees that to watch a child swimming is to focus on the child, it is not to keep chatting by glancing from time to time. According to a survey published last year, only 32% of  Quebecers said they looked after their children at all times.

The important thing is never to swim alone.
