Tracee Ellis Ross thanked her "glamorous" mother Diana Ross for introducing her to fashion as she picked up the Fashion Icon Award at the 2020 People's Choice Awards.
The Black-ish actress was honoured at Sunday night’s ceremony, and she graciously thanked her family and stylist Karla Welch as she took to the stage at the pared down prize-giving.
Mentioning her father Robert Ellis Silberstein and his "impeccable style and for being my humour twin," Tracee gave a shout out to her music icon mother too.
"Not only for her great parenting... but also her example, her sense of style, her epic closet and her glamour that introduced me to the power of fashion," the 48-year-old gushed.
Tracee, who was wearing a white cape, leather harness and thigh-high boots, also sweetly thanked fashion designers for letting her wear their "sublime creations", and joked that the award has given her permission to do more shopping.
"Tracee, do you take fashion to be your lawfully wedded wife? I do, I do!" she quipped. "I cannot thank you enough for validating my shopping habit."
She also revealed that her love for vintage clothes helped her create a sense of style, and allowed her to curate high-fashion looks on a budget.
"Second-hand clothing helped me understand that style has nothing to do with money," Tracee shared. "It's the way you put things together. Style is the how, not the what."
She concluded her speech by imploring people to support Black designers, and to use fashion as a statement against wider issues in the world.
"If fashion is the thing that draws you in, then use it as a tool for transformation," she urged. "Use fashion as an entrance. Let your clothes be your superhero cape, allowing you to the best you you can be. Activate the clothes through your joy and commitment to the world that you want to see."
