If you were planning to send a package through Canada Post today or tomorrow for the holidays, think again!
Due to the month-long strike, Canada Post will not be accepting new mail until Thursday as it works to clear a massive backlog—about a couple of million packages.
The corporation said it will focus on two types of deliveries: mail already in the system since the strike began and items that have been waiting to be sent because new mail wasn’t accepted during the strike.
Priority will be given to rural and remote communities, which have gone without deliveries since mid-November.
The 55,000 striking workers returned to work at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, December 17, following an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
