A brand-new space dedicated to Indigenous cultural activities has been announced in Montreal’s Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood. It will focus on the traditional art of hide tanning — a practice that has been passed down for generations.

The project, led by the Indigenous collective Buckskin Babes, will serve as a vibrant hub for cultural transmission, training, and creation. It will bring together Indigenous artists and artisans while also hosting community events.

Construction began only a few weeks ago, and the official opening is planned for 2026. Sud-Ouest Borough Mayor Benoit Dorais, along with City of Montreal representatives, emphasized that this space is a powerful step toward recognizing Indigenous cultures and preserving ancestral knowledge.
