Speed Skating Gold
Canadian speed skater Ted-Jan Bloemen got the best of his Dutch rival Sven Kramer in the 10,000 metre race, winning Canada’s 4th gold medal. Kramer had previously bested Bloemen in the 5,000 metre race Sunday. In last night’s race, Bloement set a new Olympic record in the 10,000 metre distance, with a time of 12:39.77. The bronze medal went to Italian skater Nicola Tumolero.

Luge: Silver for Canadian Relay Team
The Canadian luge team comprising of Alex Gough, Sam Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith won silver last night in Pyeongchang for the relay event. They completed the race in 2:24.872, just 355 milliseconds behind the Germans. Team Austria won bronze with a time of 2:24.988.

Duhamel & Radford Keep their Spot & Win Bronze
After a solid first round in the short programme, Canadian figure skating couple Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford kept up the pace. Their solid performance won them a bronze medal, with a total score of 230.15. They are the first skating couple for Canada to win a medal since Jamie Sale and David Pelletier in Salt Lake City, in 2002.
Chinese duo Wenjing Sui and Cong Han won the silver medal, while German skaters Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot took home gold for their team.
These three new medals bring Canada’s total to 13 medals, four of which are gold.
High Hopes for Curling, Hockey and Cross-Country Skiing
Canada had a solid start to the curling tournament in Gangneung, with two consecutive victories placing them ahead of the pack. Calgary’s Kevin Koe led his quartet to a 5-3 victory against the Italians and then won 6-4 against the Brits. Canada will play against Norway today.
Canada’s women’s hockey team won 2-1 against the U.S. in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The Canadian women owe their victory to a spectacular performance by goaltender Geneviève Lacasse, who kept out all but one of the Americans’ 45 shots on goal, including one penalty shot. Team Canada shot just 23 times…
Cross-country skiing star Alex Harvey is keeping his hopes up for a medal during the 15 km race, despite disappointing results in two previous races. He finished 8th in the 30 km race Sunday, and failed to qualify for the sprint event. Despite this, coach Louis Bouchard has high hopes for the 15 km race Friday, the 4x10 km relay Sunday, the team sprint on February 21st, and the 50 km classic February 24th, which Harvey won during the last World Cup.
