At his press conference this afternoon, Premier François Legault confirmed that over the last 24 hours, the province of Quebec saw its lowest COVID-19 related death rate in over a month, with 34 deaths occurring in the last day.
As of this afternoon, Quebec has reached 43,627 confirmed cases of the virus, and sadly a total of 3,596 deaths province-wide.
Premier Legault also announced that his government has received the green light to reopen Montreal retail businesses on May 25th, as originally planned. These businesses will need to have outside entrances, which means a vast majority will remain closed for the time being; despite the long road ahead for those in the Montreal area, Legault said that “the battle is not won, but it is encouraging.”
In terms of daycares, Premier Legault announced that those in the Montreal area will be reopening on June 1st, but maintained that schools will only reopen in September.
