Beaconsfield mayor Georges Bourelle is convinced that banning leaf blowers in his borough will improve the quality of life in summer. His administration plans on banning the machines during summer months, despite widespread opposition from citizens.
Bourelle says the machines create significant noise and air pollution, and are a generally misunderstood health threat to the population. He also said the city has received multiple complaints about the machines. Montreal West and Westmount have also restricted the use of leaf blowers.
Meanwhile, critics say the ban is ill-conceived, and the city hasn’t listened to citizens before proposing these measures.
The new rules will be voted on during a public meeting on Monday, July 9, at 8 p.m. If passed, leaf blowers will be banned June 1st to September 30 starting in 2019, and restricted October 1st to May 31st.
