Highway 15 is closed in both directions after a tanker truck containing propane tipped over this morning. Drivers are being asked to avoid the La Vérendrye area, as the highway is CLOSED until further notice
- 15-N closed from Exit 58 (Bonaventure/downtown)
- 15-S closed from Turcot
- Detour via Bonaventure and the 720
Although no propane spill has been reported, hazardous materials teams are on site, and a security perimeter has been set up. The truck is on its side, and it will be a very delicate and dangerous operation to get it back upright and off the highway safely, without causing any explosions.
After the crash, first respondents attempted to free the driver, who was stuck in the truck's cabin. Sadly, police confirmed his death shortly afterwards. The cause of death hasn't been confirmed, but could be attributable to a cardiovascular accident, and is possibly the cause of the crash itself.
A Transports Québec spokesperson confirmed that the highway is expected to remain closed until further notice - possibly including rush hour. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
