Montreal’s MURAL festival (June 6-16) is in full swing, and it’s one of our favourite early-summer events in this city! Not only that, but it’s lining up to be a weekend of beautiful weather. Plus, many of the events and attractions near Saint-Laurent Boulevard are 100% FREE and family-friendly!
Here are a few things you don’t want to miss at this festival!
You’ll definitely want to have a look at some of the murals being painted. That’s the whole point of the festival! But you may have a hard time deciding where to start. After all, there are several dozen murals that have been painted during past editions of the festival, and many more are being added this year. Guided tours ($20) are available for those who want to get the most out of their visit. You can also check out the complete list of artists adding new murals this year. If there’s anyone who catches your eye, go check out their work as it’s being done! Or, if you’re just passing through, use this interactive map to find the most interesting murals near you.
Of course, this festival isn’t just about murals!
TONIGHT, June 7, from 6-11pm, Milk & Bone and Choses Sauvages are performing for FREE outdoors at 3527 Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
The festival is also organizing a series of creative workshops. You never know where the next big mural artist may come from, so why not try your hand? These workshops include FREE visual projection workshops (June 7-15) and spray painting workshops ($50; weekdays 5pm-7pm; weekends 1pm, 5pm and 7:30pm). Tickets for the spray painting workshops are available here.
For the more food-oriented, there is a HUGE cooking competition happening from June 11-14. Chefs from 10 different restaurants will be offering their best creations for just $6 a plate or 5 for $20! The winner will be announced on June 13 and will be awarded a $1000 prize.
Last but not least, the Mural Closing Party on June 16 will help raise funds for community organization Bonne Famille. Each $5 donation will be used towards creative workshops with people suffering from mental health issues.
