The newly-inaugurated Pont Samuel-de-Champlain will see its first motorists crossing in the South direction Monday, July 1st. In the days leading up to this, closures and delays can be expected. Here’s everything you need to know about the “New Champlain” opening, as well as other road closures in & around Montreal this long weekend!

CHAMPLAIN

Beginning Friday evening at 10pm, the original Champlain Bridge will be closed in both directions for good. Over the weekend, workers will finish building the on-ramps and exits connecting the new bridge, forcing them to close highway 10/15/20 completely between Île-des-Soeurs and highway 30. The new Samuel-de-Champlain Bridge is slated to open in both directions at 11am.

Beginning at midnight, workers will also close all the existing on-and-off ramps to the original Champlain Bridge. This means motorists coming from Marie-Victorin in either direction will not be able to take highway 10/15/20. Those access ramps are set to be reopened at 11am Monday. Click here for a map.

Due to the fireworks display on Saturday night, Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be closed. Exceptionally, workers will open a single lane on the Champlain from 7pm Saturday to 1am Sunday. Click here for a map.

There is also a wild card: the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has warned the public that due to unsuitable weather conditions. There are rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for this weekend in Montreal… In a worst case scenario, that could delay work by an additional week.

JACQUES-CARTIER

The first fireworks display of the season is happening this Saturday evening at La Ronde! This year marks the 35th anniversary of the fireworks, and Saturday’s display will be a throwback to the music of 1985 – the year the fireworks started! See the full fireworks schedule here.

As usual, the fireworks display will force the closure of Jacques-Cartier Bridge from 8:30pm to 11:30pm Saturday. The eastbound Ville-Marie Tunnel will also be closed from 8:30pm to 11:59pm.

VICTORIA

This weekend, Victoria Bridge will have both lanes open in the southbound direction only.

TURCOT

There are a few closure to put on your radar for Turcot this weekend, but not as bad as some we’ve seen recently. Click here for a map.

  • 15-S: full closure, 11:59pm Friday to 11am Monday
  • 20-E to 15-S: full closure, 11:59pm Friday to 11am Monday
  • 15-N: down to one lane, 11:59pm Friday to 5am Monday
  • 20-E and 136-W to 15-N: full closure, 11:59pm Friday to 5am Monday

NUN’S ISLAND

Nun’s Island will have all of its usual exit points this weekend, except of course via the Champlain Bridge. However, just one entrance point will remain open during the weekend: motorists will have to take the on-ramp from Gaétan-Laberge to highway 10/15/20 and then exit 57-S to Nun’s Island. Click here for a map.

  • Access to highway 15/20 from Atwater closes Friday at 10pm.
  • Entry from highway 15/20 to Nun’s Island via exit 57-N closes Friday at 11:59pm.
  • Entry from highway 10 via exit 5 closes Friday at 11:59pm.
