Quebec Deputy Premier Genevieve Guilbault, along with Deputy Prime Minister Geneviève Guilbault, Minister of Culture and Communications, Nathalie Roy, Minister Delegate for Transport and the Montreal region, Chantal Rouleau, Regional Director of Public Health of Montreal, Dr. Mylène Drouin and of the National Director of Public Health, Dr. Horacio Arruda are providing Quebec’s daily COVID-19 update from Quebec City.

As of today there are 3,865 deaths in Quebec that is 65 more than yesterday. There are 46,141 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that is 646 more cases than yesterday. 1419 people are in the hospital, including 175 whom are in intensive care.

We continue to observe this encouraging trend […], there is stabilization in the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19, despite the fact that we are testing more, said the Deputy Premier.

Public health, which still aims to run 14,000 tests per day, managed to conduct 12,604 tests for the day alone on Wednesday, added Ms. Guilbault.

Earlier, Premier François Legault and Dr. Arruda distributed masks at the Cadillac metro station to educate Montrealers about the importance of wearing them.

Thursday, Minister Roy had expressed the wish to be able to present a first phase of recovery in certain sectors of culture activity by the end of the week. The relaunch of activities, which will be smooth and variable geometry, should first affect museums and libraries.

It is a first step in the process of deconfinement for the cultural industry in Quebec. Starting May 29, Libraries will only be open for book lending, and museums will be subject to customary physical distancing rules. The drive-in theatres may also reopen.
