Quebec Bars Allowed to Open

After months of lockdown, things are starting to get back to normal in the province of Quebec.

As of today, Quebec public health officials gave the green-light to allow the opening of bars, spas, water parks, casinos, and other tourist attractions.

That’s right, just about everything in Quebec is allowed to open except large festivals, overnight summer camps, and combat sports— so long as establishments keep people two metres apart and follow sanitary measures. Respiratory etiquette, including wearing masks, is still recommended.

Horacio Arruda, the director of public health, said indicators show the virus is loosening its grip on the province. “Quebec society continues its path toward a new normal to fight this virus,” he said. "We are truly in a significant decrease everywhere in Quebec, and even in the Montreal region."

The announcement came as the number of cases in Quebec continues to drop.

As of Thursday, there are now 5,448 people who have died of COVID-19 in Quebec, as confirmed cases in the province reached 55,709. That’s an increase of seven from the 5,441 deaths reported Wednesday; six of those deaths occurred over the past 24 hours, public health authorities said, while one death took place before June 17
