According to research, this is the age people are said to be the most miserable

In this segment from The Beat 5@7, Cat and Claudia discuss a recent study by Dartmouth College Professor David Blanchflower, which claims we are the most unhappy at age 48.

Details

Not long ago, Cat Spencer and Claudia Marques asked listeners; if you could take a pill that prevented your body from getting older, at what age would you take the pill?

The segment received a ton of feedback after listeners were shocked to learn that according to research, most people surveyed replied 50 years old, as the magic number.

Now, just a couple of weeks later, Cat discovered a new survey, only this one suggests people living in the developed world are at our most miserable around the time they reach the age of 48.

The study was carried out by David Blanchflower, the former Bank of England policymaker who concluded that that in every country there is a “happiness curve” which is U-shaped over lifetimes. It reaches its lowest in the developing nations at 48.2, to be exact.

“The curve’s trajectory holds true in countries where the median wage is high and where it is not and where people tend to live longer and where they don’t,” Blanchflower wrote in a study that was distributed by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Regardless of what the study says, many of our listeners didn’t necessarily agree. Take a listen to the segment above and be sure to check out The Beat 5@7 with Cat & Claudia, every Monday – Thursday from 5 to 7 PM.

Enjoy!
